Number 3…..with Robbie O'Brien

Post by jcphotog »

A beautiful dread with Sitka Spruce and an amazing set of Honduran Rosewood back and sides from RC Tonewoods. Built it with Robbie O'Brien in a one-on-one class in 6 days. What an incredible experience to learn from a master luthier. Sounds incredible; big and sweet with tons of sustain and overtones…..

Very nice. Did the 6 days include any part of the finish? Did you make the neck from a blank? Did you you have to surface the sides, back and top? DId he help you decide on a size and on materials?

Robbie did the UV poly finish (I left it with him and picked it up a week later). And yes, we made the neck from scratch. On the sixth day we were actually able to string it up and play it by using hollow bolts from Stewmac with which we temporarily attached the bridge. Robbie has a "kit" with LMI which he requires you to buy for his classes, which contains no pre-made parts, just the wood and hardware. I convinced him to substitute the honduran rosewood for the EIR that comes with the kit.

Just beautiful, really really nice. I'm jealous too that you got to build with Robbie.
