Finished My First

Post by aaron »

Well, it took a few months, but I finally finished my Martin Dread Kit (Mahogany). I made a lot of mistakes cosmetically, but I am very happy with the tone and volume of the instrument. I feel like I learned a ton about guitars along the way and about the craft. I definitely plan to do another kit in the next few months, probably a rosewood Martin kit. I feel like I learned so much on the first attempt, that I think the second one will go smoother and some of the cosmetic challenges I faced on this one will be lessened since I know what to expect.

I really think if I had not found this site, then I would not have taken on this project. This site has some extremely helpful people volunteering advice to total guitar making idiots like me, and you all have been a great encouragement as I've crossed little hurdles along the way. I want to thank you all!

I'm not a great photographer, but here are some pictures of the final product.

Great Aaron. Isn't it a thrill to string that baby up and have a listen?! Nice thinking on the headstock too, I like that idea.

Nice job Aaron! I'm i the process of putting the neck on my
first build. I love building and the idea of finishing things step
by step. Congrat's to you! I hope mine comes out well too...

Good job, Aaron! I am working on my first, and will probably set a world record for how long it's taking... a tiny bit at a time. You did a great job if you have a guitar that you like to play. Sure looks like it. And what a great idea on the headstock!
Slowest builder on the forum. These things take time. Apparently.

She looks really nice Aaron. I think the signature on the headstock is a fabulous idea!
You should continue with this as your trademark. I would not be surprised if others try the same thing.
