You asked for photos... so here they are... but low res, from far away...

(a "three foot finish" may be OK for some boatbuilding, but not for guitars)

Here are the two "first attempts" that I pulled together.

I originally set out to build just the 000 (Stew-Mac kit) as a surprise birthday present for my daughter. But I had enough "irrecoverable learning" on the binding that I decided on a "do-over" with the dreadnaught (Martin kit).

(Lessons learned to follow... assuming I get better each time... )

Genevieve reports that they are both very playable... I am happy to report that they are both perfect in her eyes.

She is joining me in the next project... Jumbo 12 String.... We'll document and share that build (and all of our questions) with you... the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I'm no expert, but to me, they sound great. Much nicer than my 30 year-old acoustic Fender that she had been playing.

I can tell which one of the two she is playing just by listening. (the Fender is now permanently up at the cottage - it is a good old guitar, but it is now in third place)

PS... Ken... Thanks for directing me here from that other (boatbuilding) forum where we met.

I tell you... If I had built guitars before boats, the finish on my boats would be nicer... but I'd have never finished them!

Glad you came, Bruce. Funny, I was just reading your post about these on the other forum, then came here. got confused for a minute lookin at the same picture. Funny how we started opposite, though. What stinks is I think it will be a couple of years before I start my boat.....really thinking of the Monaco with the open alternate plan. I just can't get enough of the work I see either here or there.

Fortunately (or not, depending on your view) I have 6 acoustics begun and 8 electrics waiting for some attention. I think it will tide me over. Anyway, Kevin is about to take his macacuba wood back from me, started or no.

So... Yesterday was a "double header performance debut" for the two guitars I have built so far.

This week is "Rememberance Day" in Canada, so most church services yesterday had a theme of remembering those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our Freedom.

My daughter used the Dreadnaught to lead a Youth choir in a rendition of "Highway of Heroes".... a song about the road in Canada along which all of our fallen service men and women are driven when their remains come home.

Then... on a funner note, last evening, her Band gave its debut performance with a four-song set. She played the OOO for two of the songs, including the first performance of one of her own compositions. (She played piano on the other two songs).

Woo Hoo.

PS. the Jumbo 12 String is coming along. Pictures will follow shortly.

Nice! Too bad we couldn't get a recording of it!
