Spalted Mango FB-185

Post by Ken C »

Not the best day for taking pictures, but I shot a few nonetheless. Below is the spalted mango FB-185 that I strung up a week ago. The sound was really tight at first with rather muted bass. However, now after a week, it sounds much better. The spalted mango was a real pain to work with, but the result is a very interesting guitar and one of the nicest ones I have made.

Top is lutz spruce.
Bindings are bookmatched canarywood
Purflings are bloodwood with an additional osage orange on the top
Headstock, fingerboard, bridge, and neck heel cap are Madagascar rosewood
Neck is five piece with honduran mahogany, tiger maple, and padauk
Rosette is marblewood with padauk and paua abalone purfling

Thanks for looking!

I will never again post a pic of even my best work. Thanks a lot Ken..

Wait! I have to tell myself: do not fail at being KenC, just try to succeed being myself. Repeat 100 times. :-)

Seriously, gorgeous work.

Thanks guys! You gents are probably only a guitar or two behind me, and each guitar turns out better than the one before. They say it takes 100 guitars to really get it dialed in--I've still got a long way to go!
