#28 complete!

Post by jread »

This one gave me some troubles but it's finally all done and ready to go so thought I would show it off. I've slowed down my pace quite a bit over the last 2 years. I started this one on Nov. 15th so I guess that's not too bad!

I've learned everything I know about this craft from the excellent and talented folks on this forum. Thank you!
  • Flamed Walnut and Bearclaw Adi Spruce
    sunburst by hand with dyes
Ebony binding, fingerboard, and peghead overlay, and bridge
gold mop inlays from De Paule Luthier supply
JRG logo cut by the one and only Diane.
    gold fret wire from Stewmac
walnut rosette cut from same wood as back/sides.
Schaller Grand-tune tuners with ebony buttons.
I have a google photo album with over 200 photos from every step along the way. Send me a DM or make a comment asking for the link if you would like to view them. I can send to your email or direct message on the forum.

She is a beauty
That walnut is amazing. 28?
I've got to pick up my game, I'm just finishing #21 in 16 years. I'm way behind. Course I did make 4 violins, working on #5

Nicely done!

I honestly can't believe I made that many, Kevin and have to keep checking my logbook to make sure I'm not crazy. My 1st two years were insane where I was building 4 or 5 at a time. I seem to have lots of friends who wanted guitars. I've never sold/given one to someone I didn't know well. I think mostly I've slowed down because I ran out of people to build them for. I've only done 3 since the beginning of last year.

And thanks, your work is inspiring. I've copied and learned a lot of your tricks.

That is so nice!! The walnut and sunburst make a very distinctive instrument. Really unique. Thanks for sharing your excellent work.

Very nice!
Don't think I have the guts to do the venetian cut away or a sunburst yet.

Can't believe you made that many guitars.
I'm on my third and averaging one a year.

What a beauty! Great work!
And you know there's a YouTube video of a guy in Mexico who builds a guitar only using a machete, right?
