Recommended wheels for buffer?
I'm finishing my third guitar, my first with Mohawk lacquer, have got through wet-sanding to 1500 and Micro-Mesh to 12000 and the finish is almost glossy. Time to buff. I've bought a Shop Fox buffing arbour and have ordered a 1/3 hp motor. I think I will put a 1" pulley on the motor, with the 2"-3"-4" on the arbour; I'm thinking a slower speed might be good for a beginner. I'm unable to find a local supplier for buffing wheels so will have to order them too. So I have a couple of beginner questions. I've read here people like flannel and airway wheels, and talk about using different size wheels, and one wheel or two on each end. To start out, for use on instruments only, which wheels would people recommend? Shop Fox says maximum 10" - is there any advantage or risk in going larger (for more room to work I'm thinking). One wheel or two on each end? I used Menzerna 2L and 16 paste by hand on my first two guitars, with a water-based finish (Bright Tone) which came to a nice gloss. Can those pastes be used on wheels, or should I buy equivalent sticks? Thanks in advance - Bruce W.
