A friend gave me a rather road beaten Seagull S6 guitar. I’ve been working on it to get it in shape to give to guitars for vets. Does anyone know what type of finish seagull uses on these guitars? It’s a semi gloss finish, but I don’t know if it’s nitro or some polymer. Their website refers to it as a custom finish.
I sent an email to their customer service and got an automatic response that the person would be out of the office till middle next week. I’d like to start finishing it this weekend. Can anyone help?

Re: Seagull guitars
In 2010 there was a thread on the Acoustic Guitar Forum that speculated that the semigloss was a nitro finish because of how it reacted to the padding on a low-end guitar stand.
Can you apply a bit of lacquer thinner to an area to see how it reacts?

Re: Seagull Guitars
Thanks Randall. I will try that tomorrow. The last coat of stain needs another day to cure.
I appreciate your input.

Re: Seagull guitars
I heard back from Michael at Godwin Guitars who was very helpful. This Seagull was built in 2009 and the neck is finished with water based polyurethane.
