One thing I found the helped is the sanding between coats I use 600 grit and only sand in the morning after setting a night.

John, the technique seems to be apply 3 coats on a day, I suspect separated by some hours of drying, and wait overnight and sand? I am guessing that a 'coat' is what a painter calls a 'cross coat', a wet application in one direction and a second wet application 90 degrees from the first.

Thanks for doing this test. It will take out a lot of guesswork and stumbling.

You said you sand in the morning, but then you said you sand between coats? How much time between coats? I am about to do a finish and . . inquiring minds.

The instructions said to sand between coats , again this is for cabinets , so I didn't like the build rate so I started to sand with 600 in the morning. I do 3 coats about 3 hrs apart . I played with different material like Tee shirt , sweat shirt ( the worse) the best rag was worn tee or the hankies
I also started to pour a small amount out and dip the rag and let it soak up then pouring on the rag. The build after the 3rd day looks even and the shine is actually surprising. Today is the last of the application. I will let this set and do the final level sand and start polishing then.
I will post more pics soon. I am surprised the the gloss that is building.

Have you tried applying with a coffee filter? I've found them to be good for spreading and then wiping TruOil which is my standard finish. And a request: could you describe, when you get to it, your process for buffing -- including both equipment and technique. Thanks.

Never even thought of that but I know paper towels don't work . To linty

the buffing process is with a shop jox buffing arbor amd 1/3 hp motor I use 2 buffing wheels a smaller 12 in domet and a 16 in cotton . I got the buffing wheel from grizzly and jescar. I also get mazerna from jescar # 204 and 16
Level sanded with 600 and will show those end result next week

Buffing after final coat cures or buffing after level sanding final cured coat?

Today I did the level sanding and final buff. I just glued on the neck and will post pics soon. It buffed out beautifully and I am more than pleased with the end result
