Shims for neck reset

Post by JLT »

I don't know why the usual luthier supply houses don't have this.

https://www.internationalviolin.com/Sea ... ?word=shim

They're pieces of maple precisely cut to a certain angle, to make re-setting necks easier. I think they used to be sold in variations of degree angles... a half a degree, one degree, and (I think) a degree and a half. If you know what neck angle you need to achieve, it's a simple matter to use the proper shim.

Now they're selling them by "millimeters" but I'm sure that if you call them, they can give you the right product for your need. They've always had superlative customer service.

Thank you for the link. I never know if I need a shim. If I do, I never know what I need, until I need it. I just keep a pack of veneers and I use scissors to cut one as I use it.
