Nitro question

John, I think you mentioned that you spray nitro guitars with some sort of blush retarder or something, prior to using a steam needle. What do you use to prevent blushing when you do a neck reset?

I use 2 products when needed and only when needed
no blush ( most auto stores )
my favorite Ever clear works the best most if the time and I use it after I am done if I need it

John, I'm confused, which happens often. I don't understand the use of Everclear and how it is used to alleviate lacquer blush. --Bob

I think the use of Everclear dulls any concerns about the finish up to that point.

Ever Clear is grain alcohol
most blushing removes itself in 24 hr. Blushing occurs with moisture locking up in the lacquer. Other discoloation that looks like blushing is often an oxidation that lays on the surface.
I find a dampened paper towel with everclear remove this pretty fast with just a light wipe. The lacquer will soften a bit so don't over wipe and let the finish reharden ( over night ).
ever clear just spray and let set .
So my process is this
if I see the ghosting from the blush or oxide I use naphtha first , that often takes surface crud then if it is still there
ever clear last resort no blush.
