I was sent photos of this neck break and asked to consider doing a repair. I was told that a repair had failed (glue didn't hold) and this has been sitting around for some time. I wonder if anyone has tackled something like this and what tips you might have.

There's repairs and there's repairs. Nice to have an idea about the owner's expectations. And what's the guitar?

ok
1st question is what did they use the first time
if they say super glue or Epoxy tell them the chances of a lasting repair is about 0
it tite bond or hide glue you have a chance
if wood glue was used you get glue do goo or some other glue remover and follow instructions
then EPOXY
once cured put in splines as you don't know how bad the glue contamination was.

Thanks, all, for the questions and wisdom! I haven't seen it yet. It's a Gibson is all I know. I'll post more as I learn more.
