Ball peen hammer and martin D28

Post by tippie53 »

here is a unique problem , a ball peen hammer was sent through the back of a D28. A 1975 , and it caused sever damage to the back You can see the hole and fractures in the back. The first think I did was to get the pieces lined back up and using CA got them set.
Then I took out and repair the brace , as it seems they don't like hammers either. So once the structure was fixed I could address the repair.

the neck process was making the piece to fit. I actually made it oversized to get into good wood and treated it as an inlay. I searched my scrap bin for matching wood.

once the piece was set it was all about sanding , seal , fill, seal and finish
as you see the pick the final pic is the first build finish coats final finish will be posted when complete

I am very happy with the result so far.

Could call it a plug for a sound port that didn't work out.
