What Randy said is very true. I started out doing repairs. It also helps to find a project guitar. You learn a lot from rehabbing a trashed guitar. I bought one for $30. I had to replace top, all bindings, the fingerboard, and the bridge, as well as repair cracks. Then i totally refinished it. I learned a lot and it readied me for my first build.
