Hey John, Thought I'd post here so everyone could benefit.

I am watching your ASIA 2017 symposium video "John Hall, Consistency in Guitar Building" at https://www.asiartisans.org/content/lea ... ideos.html

Great video. Thanks for posting it.

At 41:58, you state that you don't put your bridge plate in until after you attach your bridge and drill the holes so you know you have the placement right. So validating what you were saying: You shape the bridge plate to be close but don't glue it in until after the guitar is assembled and bridge glued on? Do you just clamp them in through the hole with a caul? I think that would be doable.

ps to all: I'm also the new web administrator for asiartisans.org aka guitarmaker.org. Come join us!

another point you make is to run the grain "cattywompus" instead of horizontally to make it stiffer. Interesting stuff.

I do glue them in now but I made that statement to help beginners to avoid the mistake of misplaced plates
yes make the plate to fit the angle of the braces
once the bridge location is known you can now make the plate to be perfect in relation to the bridge an 1/8 over each edge

That would have helped me in the beginning. I’ve replaced 2 tops because of missed plates among other “learning opportunities”. But now I know. Thanks!

removing a plate is not that difficult
take a sponge cut it in the shape of the plate soak it over night
sometimes it takes 48 hr out they come
