I've come up for some new uses for the KMG Mega Mold - which is a very flexible and usable tool for building.
One of the pics shows the modified MM being used for very securely holding bindings in place. This also has the advantage of leaving the top completely exposed so that any squeeze-out, whether Ca or Titebond or whatever, is immediately visible and easy to wipe up. The mold holds everything rock solid, and no glue is applied until you can see that every inch of binding is nice and tight. I did have to buy some long screws, some nuts and washers; I cut a slot in the mdf cauls Ken provides so that I can apply pressure to the binding via the stick-on felt pads.
Set-up time is minimal. No tape, unless there is a troublesome area that worries you. The long screws slip out the bottom of the mold when not needed.
There is also a pic that shows that, by leaving everything else in place and just moving the slotted caul higher and moving it forward in the slot in the caul, in effect you create a MM "spool clamp". It provides a very positive pressure on all points of the rim for gluing tops and bottoms. Note: Per Ken's online manual, I strive toward the ideal of the 'four rubber bands' method. Having reached that point, I still like to use the 'spool clamp' MM for the actual gluing. It is not necessary, though.
I start building a KMG Walnut/Englemann 000 cutaway later in this week and will provide pics of an easy way to use the MM for clamping braces.
Just throwing this out there in case someone else can profit from it. We all skin our cats in different ways. Me, I'm basically lazy and seem to do anything to avoid learning a real skill, :-)
