Fretboard binding advice

Can you all give me an opinion? I am trying to decide on fretboard binding.

First up is the same rope material I am using elsewhere only used as a binding instead of a purfling - you really notice this one

Next is ivoroid - seems to go well with the other colors - the end of the fretboard will be bound too in all cases

Now we have MOTS - Mother of Toilet Seat - a little bit of dazzle

Last is plain old Walnut. Do you have a favorite?

Thanks

Ed

Ed I like the walnut best from your shown choices, but is the body bound in Tortise? How about matching that, tortoise bound fretboard. Would tie it all together.

I'd go with the ivoroid myself. I think the rope is too "busy" and the MOTS looks garishly out of place.

May I suggest thining your purfling and thin the binding and use them together.

when looking down to the neck, I'm looking for the side dots to determine where to play up the neck... the rope design would not work, as it would be confusing.... I like a light colored binding with black side dots,,, second choice, no binding, white side dots.... T

You have a lot going on in this guitar. If you use the rope or MOT, it's simply too much. Your eyes don't know where to look first!

I think the plain walnut looks best, but if you really want binding, I'd use the Ivoriod. Then, I'd use side position markers in either one you chooose.

Thanks all

I am a fan of the MOTS so I had enough left over - but you are right, it is a bit garish here. The rope binding is very cool - but I will save it for a Koa Single 0 sometime. This leaves ivoroid and plain Walnut. I am leaning to the plain Walnut - but I do have MOTS fretboard dots and side markers to give it a little tweak.

Thanks again

Ed

A building buddy suggested this - Duh! Cut from the scraps from the back and top.

I think it is a winner - looks like a curly piece, it is an exact color match, and it is subtle enough that you have to look a little to see what it is. The first shot is the face grain on the side and the end grain on the skinny top of the piece. The second shot is the end grain on the side and the face grain on the top

Any opinions?

Ed
