register pins

I am putting on a top and a back. I have used barbecue skewers (1/8") to register the top by going into the neck block under the fretboard and into the heel block so the hole in the top is within the purfling.

I am not putting purfling on the back of this one - is there a way to use register pins for the back??

Martin leaves "ears" at the waist of their tops and bottoms to locate them during manufacture. You might be able to do something similar.

If you use kraft paper you can can glue a block on the outside of the tail block and use that to pin in. Me I use the braces once you get the 3rd cut you should be locked up.

Ed,
I have glued very small blocks on to the inside of the back on either side of the heel and end blocks, locating them with the rims sitting on TOP of the back, looking down.
Line it up, CA the little blocks to the back (works for the top too), and when you position the back, it will go on right where you want it. If you use very small blocks even the ones at the heel block won't be noticed.
