Does anyone have experience bending granadillo? I tried bending a side today and found it remarkably difficult! I've only bent mahogany and rosewood before, but this granadillo is super hard to bend compared to those. I even thicknessed it down to .075, but still it hardly budges. I'm using a burnzomatic torch inside a black pipe. I tried first bending with just a light soaking of water, and when that didn't work too well, I threw the side in the shower for 15 minutes. That still didn't work, so I tried bending the side with it wrapped in aluminum foil. No luck. Any ideas? Thank you!

"The bracing is completed on the top and I bent the sides this afternoon. I had no idea that granadillo wood is fairly hard, okay, it's a bear to bend. The wood should be soaked for 20 minutes and the temperature of the bending iron needs to be 410 degrees Fahrenheit for the wood to bend well. Even with all that it is hard to bend, I will thin the sides to less than 2mm thick next time!"

I bend it at .075 and use wet paper and super soft. The trick is to keep it damp as your bending. I do
slat wet paper wood wet paper heat blanket slat. I allow a bit more heat 250 to start bending lower bout first upper and then waist but check that the wood is still damp NOT WET just damp.

Thanks for the replies. So perhaps I need to soak it longer. John, when you say 'super soft' I'm assuming you're referring to the piece of wood right? As in, it's soaked long enough to where it'd be 'super soft'? Thanks again! I'll try bending again soon.

Super-soft 2 is a veneer softening product http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/ ... ioner.html. I use it on hard to bend wood. I spray it on wrap the wood in aluminium foil and bend it about 30 minutes later.

Ohhhhhh ok. Leave the foil on during bending?

I do leave it on.

I use paper and super soft
both methods work A great product

The super soft will appear to stain the wood but it does sand right off

Just for reference, would you use the product for bending bubinga as well? Or not necessary? Just thought I'd get an opinion before I start trying to bend the bubinga I have on hand. Thanks!
