lacquer drying times

Post by jartzh »

I sprayed the neck (2 coats) let it dry, overnight, touched it and it felt fine. set in my guitar holder and the rubber part of the holder melted my lacquer. how long do you have to wait until its "cured" . it was so dry I played it and thought it was done.

Many of those holders will do that to lacquer no matter how old it is. But depending on the brand of lacquer you use, it takes anywhere from 7-30 days to gas off properly.

Overnight was not near long enough before putting in a stand or case. Nitro can finish print for up to a week in some cases. I usually figure 3-4 weeks dry time before I cut and buff a lacquer.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
