Fretboard with Binding
Are you spraying the finish and then fretting or other way around? Seems to me spraying the finish and then putting the frets in place makes more sense.

I install the frets, then mask off the face of the fretboard before spraying the finish

Either way is OK. You will need to touch up the fret board on the edge if you install the frets after finishing. I have found that even with the bound fret board there is still plenty of opportunity to mar the finish when dressing the frets.

I prefer to finish before fretting whenever I can. On an acoustic it gives a chance to do a final leveling of the FB after the neck is set to eliminate any hump at the joint.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
