Trimming head plate on a slot head?

Hey Monk, I thought everyone knew not to ask questions at Home Depot. :-))
Nice set of photos and nice job on the guitar. How did the headstock get
damaged? Did you receive it that way?

No that was my poor workmanship on this headstock.

Any recommendations on the right way to trim the faceplate without this tear-out happening? It ended up ok in the end on #1 but I'd obviously like to do it right from here on out. thanks

If the slot in the neck is already cut, I use a flush cut router bit, very carefully set so that the bearing does not fall in the tuner holes. I do drill out quite a bit of the waste before routing. If I am making a neck from scratch I glue on the veneer before I make the slots.

on the lower part you may need to ramp the slot for the strings. Here I like a 1/2 rat tail rasp
