Cooking your wood??

So I've read about some who praise the cooking process as the Holy Grail.
Others say it neither positively nor negatively effects the wood in any way.
The process I'm talking about is putting your top wood in an oven at
150 - 200 degrees for an hour or so. Waiting a week and repeating the procedure.
Anyone here want to voice an opinion, either positive or negative about the process?
