Swelling/shrinking binding

My first guitar, last fall, had black plastic binding. I installed it with Duco Cement, and the next day took off the tape and scraped it. Worked beautifully.
My second guitar, this spring, had tortoise plastic binding, also installed with Duco. I scraped the next day and it was a little mushy, so I waited 24, then 48 more hours, then it worked fine.
My third guitar has ivoroid plastic binding, installed with Duco. I waited 4 days this time just to be sure (a very long 4 days) and it seemed to scrape perfectly. All was well when I put a wash coat of shellac over it. That was about 3 weeks ago, and now the binding is just a hair shrunken down from the surface of the sides.
Any ideas, suggestions, or reprimands?? Is it the shrinking binding or the swelling sides?
Thanks

Just finished the hand applied Cremona Brown sunburst on this Nick Lucas and it looks FANTASTIC.
