Hi all.

I had question regarding the leveling of the frets.

I have used a radius sanding block from StewMac to level the frets out. I am sure they are no where near being level since it is only 4 inches long. But, so far so good. No buzzing!

I have been looking into ungrading and getting a 16 inch sanding beam.

Are there any recommendations from the group on these?

This may floor you but I only use the radius block to prep a board . Once there I use a diamond sharpening stone.

Here is my process. I will mark the frets with black sharpie pen I use the coarse and follow the string lines and remove the ink , then I remark use the fined and work the whole board. Once the ink is all off you can sight down the fretboard and see the fretplane
Now I remark and use the crown file and leave just a fine line of ink. At this point I polish the frets using a fret board protector and cork with 2500 grit sand paper.

When you say you follow the string lines what do you mean? Just moving up and down the fret board?

What size radius block do you use?

yup up and down then blend in.
I use mostly 16 inch blocks on the fretboards.

How long is the block? 4", 8", longer?

I am doing a compression fret this week and will try and take some photos for you so you can see my process. Keep it simple.
