Wood binding thickness

Hi all.

I am using wood bindings for the first time. I was wondering about a thickness issue.

They are .80 thick. My sides are .90 thick.

I have always used plastic bindings that were .60 thick.

Should I worry that I have thinned my sides at the binding point too thin?

Could I have a structural issue??

Thanks for any advice.

Under .080 is better. I use a .075 to .065 wood binding when I use them. Too thick, I think they look too heavy on the top. Also much over .080 you can have issues bending and binding gaps

I have already bent them. I guess I could just cut my binding slots about .65 and sand them down after installation. Sound OK?

If already bent I say go for it and get ready for some scraping after that glue dries.

I think it's recommended to scrape the sides down to the binding but if your binding is bent really close to your body shape and your channels are perfectly even, it will make no difference in the final product.

yes
best to takes the sides to the binding rather than taking the binding to the sides. You can set the depth a bit more or even dead flush
