Dave don't you have to bend laminated sides?

Yes, but at .045" they just lay right on the form, I use vacuum and voila! They simply don't lose their shape once the resin is dry.

Sounds like this method would open up a new opportunity to use attractive and less expensive veneers for sides. But unless back/side matching is taken out of the equation, it appears the good news stops there.

The side wood is not veneer, it's side material, that matches the back, that has been worked down to .045". Then two commercial veneers of .025" are used, same type of wood.
Highly figured wood is very easy to bend this way without danger of cracking.

I'll post some pix after my 2 day class with Brian Burns - in a couple of weeks.
The duplicator? I look at it, wistfully, day after day as I try to finish up a number of nagging little projects. It will happen!

Dave,
I am curious to see your vacuum set up. When you say the sides resting on the form, I assume you mean the guitar form?

Looks downright simple if you have the vacuum equipment. Kudos to the photographer.
But what is the sonic signature of a laminated side and how does that signature compare to non lamintated??

I'm not sure there is a difference. It is common sense, though, that if some of the very top-tier builders in the world use laminated sides, that there is no negative effect.
