I'm curious as I've never made a neck from scratch.

Is it better to cut the channel with a full width bit or cut the channel in more than one pass?

might depend on if you've got a full size router or using a lam. trimmer... but i do full width, and take 2 or 3 passes to get to my depth.

The Martin style rod the I have used is stocked by Stew-Mac and John Hall.At least I think John stocks them. The are made of u channel and require a slot of about 7/16" if I recall correctly. I cut the slot on the table saw and find that makes it easy to control width, just saw right through and install a mahogany filler at the head stock. I also epoxy these into the neck and find it creates a very stiff neck. Maybe there is another Martin rod.

that is the old 1 way rod Martin is now using the 2 way adjustable. this is 1/4 in wide with a 3/8 wide lower end at the barrel nut.

I'm really out of touch. I think the U channel rod is the best rod out there. Not sure way we need two way adjustment, just apply a bit of forethought.

What is the difference between a one way and two way, can it be used at both ends ?

I just bought my first Martin style rod by Gotoh with the rod in the channel. I don't know if it is the old style or new style, but it is two way, and I think I'm going to like it. I uses a much bigger nut/allen wrench for adjusting, which I can already tell will make turning the thing easier - more torque. I like the LMI rod, but it is very expensive. I just had a bad experience with the Hot Rod from Stewmac, so won't be going there anymore. I still want to try Allied Lutheries rod, but may wind up staying this Gotoh rod.
