Help with this dovetail

Hi

I have the neck centered to within 1mm and the bridge set at the correct location. The straight edge is just over 1/32 above the bridge so i could do with bit more adjustment to bring it down a bit. However I have some gaps where it joins the body that I can't seem to shift. The joint isn't grabbing the neck an pulling it it in, see video here

Shall I glue a shim on the dovetail and try to get a better joint first before I adjust the neck angle.

I also have a gap under the straight edge under the last few frets, see second picture taken at fret location 18,19, 20at the is this important? The first picture shows where the gap is located. J

did you put chalk in the joint so you can see how the tenon is mating?

No, chalk but I'll try tomorrow

I may try with some paper shims to see if that has the desired effect of bringing the joint together

there is no doubt that shimming may be a starting point. You may have gotten the tenon and mortise off and you need to get them back to mating. Chalk will help to let you read the mating area of contact

I have put shims on each side, I'll get some chalk and see how it goes. There is much less play in it now.

I also took some off the end of the dovetail as I think it was getting too close to the neck block.

The little bit of fall off of your fretboard extension is a good thing.....helps you to not have buzzing with strings on.
Also, that height over the bridge is perfect. You have no worries there.
Good luck getting your dovetail to fit. Let us know how it goes.

No sorry I asked a question then found the answer in the archives, felt kind of silly then erased my post (couldn't figure out how to delete it).

(two posts as I can only add 3 pictures at a time)

Somewhere in the process the neck angle has dropped so I'll take touch off the bottom to lift it up.

I have 7 mm at the neck and about 5.5 at the bridge location.

See my next post for my next question
