Hi all!
I have ordered a design of my loggo, and I realize now when I have it in my hand that it´ll be impossible to cut the head piece using it as a template. In the "H A and G´s" the closed areas are to small for any pen. Is there something I could do here or should I order a head piece with the ilay allready cut out immediately?

well, I generally cut out for my inlay after the headplate is glued to the guitar. This obviously has some challenges, but it also solves some problems (like the one you have).

I'm not sure how thick your inlay is, or how thick your headplate is, but generally speaking, mine don't go all the way through the headplate.

I've not done this, but I suppose you could temporarily attach the headplate to a substrate and do your inlay, then attempt to remove it, but I think this would be difficult and risky.

I can not tell by the picture how small the inlay is. I use a very thin and sharp stylus I got in an exacto knife kit. You can tack down the pattern with just a touch of glue and use the stylus to scratch the pattern. Carefully remove the inlay with a razor blade and use chalk dust to bring out the scratches.

An idea I have is to make a 1 to 1 photo copy of the inlay (in your case on a colored background. Glue it down where you want it and use the photocopy as your guide. I have never tried this idea.

that isn't that big a deal , you just need some practice. I use a .3mm pencil for lay out. Here is a link of some inlay.

Don't use a razor , the best is to set it in water. The leverage can cause the pearl to snap. Most inlay is sent that way . If water doesn't release it then naphtha should.

Ok thanks for the replies. I´ll see if I can get a 3 mm pen...
Is it a bad idea to spray the loggo with white paint an create a template?

Jag är nybörjare, och har jobbat med min första gitarr i 1 1/2 år nu....grymt trevlig hobby som jag kommer syssla med framöver.

There are many techniques to mark out the pearl . I am not a fan of paint but you can try this , lay the pearl on the head plate and lightly spray the head plate with spray shellac or lacquer. The key here is to FOG it on lightly so you can see the pearl footprint.
Then take white chalk dust and you can dust the shellac while still tacky lift the pearl and set in alcohol to clean off the chalk and dust , you will have a nice footprint. Have at it. and post pics
