Glueing on the top and back

Post by hummingbird »

This is the way I want to glue on my top and back. I'll lay the top/back directly on the corresponding raduis dish then place the rim in the mold on top (the rim sticking up out of the mold enough to allow the gobar rods to touch directly onto the rim) and apply go bar rods to a caul on the upper side of the rim to apply pressure through the rim down on to the plate.

My reasoning...

1 - I can see the inside of the plate and make sure the kerfing is making full contact with the plate and everything is aligned properly.
2 - I can access the inside of the plate to clean the glue squeeze out before it dries.
3 - The mold being on the rim will prevent the rim from distorting and therefore retain the correct shape while glueing. Also the weight of the mold will help apply downward pressure for glueing.
4 - the plate will be pressed down into the radius dish to ensure it retains the proper radius. (cuz my back plate is a little shallow length wise.)
5 - Everything being the right shape will ensure the top will fit properly when I flip it over.

Can anyone think of any reason why this may be a bad idea? I haven't seen anyone do it this way before so Im not sure about it.
Here's a picture of a dry run so you all know what Im talking about.
