resawing 101

Saturday I had a friend ( Mike Wendt ) come to the shop to help resaw a cant of Honduran Rosewood. This thing was a chunk ,, 51 inches by 9 inch by 7. It weighted in about 100lb. We put on a new blade and split the billet then started sawing. It will produce a good number of high end sets.
Pretty color and very tight grain. I wanted to show you how we do it and for those that didn't ever see it done.

How long will the billets have to sit now before you can use them John?

They were to be kiln dried and I have them wrapped in plastic and will look at them in 2 weeks. Open them up and sticker them in a press . This will allow a good air flow and should be stable in about 6 weeks.
so In 2 months they should be ready

For those of you that are "resaw challenged", I'll sum the procedure up for you.

1) Locate a chunk of wood you want to use for back/side sets.

2) Take it to John Hall's shop.......he puts on a new bandsaw blade and the two of you cut nice back and side sets.

3) Post pictures of the event on the KGF so everyone is jealous of your rare HogRoseNut back/side sets that are the closest thing to BRW known to mankind.

4) Tastes good, lasts a long time.

I Plan to sell some. I will let you guys know . When you cut a big piece like that you have to let it stabilize . Once that happens I will know my yield. it is sure a nice piece

If you do it right you can sell everything but the sawdust, or maybe you sell that too! Just put it in small baggies and advertise it as crack and hole and general screw up filler, just mix with alittle CA or drug of choice.
