Keep an eye on serviced components.
I was just about ready to start work on a serviced fret board, when it looked just a bit off to me. I found the 4th fret off by 1.5 mm (.060"). More than enough on a steel string to drive me nuts playing it. The 24.9 scale is the one with the triangles. The distance between fret 4 and 5 is exactly the same as between 5 and 6.

ohh, that would not have been fun to play. Don't say who from, but a good reminder to check. I cut my own with a template, but I suppose the template could also be off????

Or the template could slip a little if not secured properly. Good catch.

Probably operator error. I bought the fingerboard pre-slotted for 24.9 scale. On my other guitars from the same vendor and they were spot on.

Yeah, it appears he indexed......got distracted......and indexed again before making the cut. Then they must have noticed they were off since they didn't index again before the next cut. It's interesting that subesequent frets were correct. Seems if they corrected things after one fret the mistake must have been noticed. Sure glad you didn't have to pull the fret board!!!

Nice catch John!
I think I might have to grab one of those scale rulers. Yours probably just paid for itself...

Obviously it happens more often. I had this before too. (Have to admit it was a cheapy). I triplecheck fingerboards while drawing, sawing and glueing. My wife then makes jokes about neurotics. hmm.
