Sanding rosewood

I´m about to sand the body of d28 kit, and I wonder how to make sure that rosewood dust does´nt make the white binding darker. The end piece got a brown tone when I sanded that area.

Put some shellac on the binding

Keeping light color bindings pristine whether made of wood or plastic can be a bit problematic. You have to take care not to mix the Rosewood dust or oily resin with any solvent -- it becomes a great penetrating stain and will go deep into the light color woods. My suggestion would be to plan on a process step that includes "scraping" the trim back to a bright clean surface. A single edge razor blade can be used for this purpose -- I understand the binding scrapers at the Martin factory are made from a piece of band-saw blade.

The key is after you are done sanding and filling you scrape them back to clean them up . If you do put anything on the binding you would knock it down during the sanding process anyway .
Learning how to scrape is all part of fit and finishing .
