Does anyone know if Stew-Mac's Quarter Round Fret File has the same type of abrasive on both sides? Or is one a coarse side and the other a fine side? These ole eyes don't see well enough to figure it out.
Here's the link to it.

Thanks much,

I own that file, although it's apparently currently in hiding somewhere, so I can't verify for sure.
I'm about 99% certain that its the same on both sides.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure it is as well. Something like that I think they'd advertise.
Appreciate the input.

Well, it makes sense that it would be the same on both sides. It's designed to be used on either side of a fret end, without having to flip it around 180 degrees.
Also, if memory serves, it's a pretty course cut on it too....

Hey Coach, I have that file and I absolutely hate it. I like the one Jim H linked to much better. The quarter round file got good reviews so maybe I'm just not smart enough to operate it. You know the old saying: "You have to be at least as smart as the equipment you're trying to operate". BTW, it has the same grit on both sides.

Hey Bob welcome back!
The fret dressing file I show how to make here:
http://www.kennethmichaelguitars.com/fretdressing.html
is what I saw at the Martin factory -- as far as I know its what they use today.

Thanks, Ken.
I had once looked at making one based on your design, but must have got lazy on it. I didn't read all the way thru the steps, but I imagine you have it set up so that nothing touches the fretboard as you dress each fret.
And someone else said the one I have is coarse. It sure is!!
Thanks for all the welcome backs, guys. It's been too long.
John, I should have put this in the tools section. If it can be moved there, it might be more appropriate.
