Hi, my name is Brian, I'm 15, and I'm working at one day becoming a luthier. I post under the same user name on a few other forums, and as henderson is go on a few others. I just wanted to introduce my self and show some pictures of my latest guitar, #4: a sapele/lutz OM that came out pretty good. I was a little reluctant to join this forum because I have never built a kit guitar, but after Tony Costa told me about it I decided to lurk and then join do to how nice everyone seems. Here is the guitar, I hope I'm posting this in the right section.

thanks, right now my dad and I are redoing our shop, so I'm not building anything until september. I did sign up for an all cedar build on and other forum that includes Ervin Somogyi (who has been tutoring me on lutherie)

Welcome Brian, that is a nice looking guitar. What do you plan on building next? Post often and show lots of pics.

thanks,

Right now, I cant build anything until my dad and I finish up the shop, so next month I will start my all cedar somogyi style mod Dreadnought. Mr. Somogyi has been tutoring me and one of the projects he had me do was draw up plans and then he modified them and I had to make the ascetics work again so Im going to build that guitar.

Tony, yep its french polish, here are some in progress shots of the finish starting with pore filling with egg whites.

Welcome Brian! My projects are all from scratch too - just post over in the 'Building From Scratch' area. Tell us about your process, what tools you've got, jigs, etc.

Did you have to use heat to get that top purfling to match your profile or was it flexible enough without prebending?

yeah, my arm was throbbing. The OM was pretty good, but I used some advice David Musselwhite gave me and now the setup is about perfect. No fret buzzing, really loud, plays really easily, and now all thats left is some final hand buffing. Then I can list it for sale to buy more tools :D

Thanks, I don't have one of those fancy fox benders like Tony, so I used my bending iron to bend everything including the sides and perfling.

That is very nice. The sound ports are cool. Never saw them shaped like that before. I like the purfling too.
Oh BTW... Why doesn't it have an oval soundhole?
