EIR saddleback

Hi Everyone,
I noticed something about the EIR back to my Ditson kit. I'm not sure what's happening. The humidity is 51% and when I glued the braces it was less. The tail seems to rise up like a saddle. I hope you can see it in the pictures. I guess I could heat it up a bit before I glue it to the rim. Or I could re-do the braces. help!

I can't speak for Ken's kit , but I don't see a big issue there. By design there will be a radius develop into the back with the braces. You also added water with the glue that will make things seem worse than they are . All will work out.

I agree with John. The rim will re- form the length-wise contour I don't see that as a problem. However, what is the humidity in your shop? Gluing a guitar together, especially the bracing and top/back to the rim in high humidity conditions can be asking for serious future problems.

I did not mean to sound like "Mr. Obvious" with my comment -- but I was asking if the rh was that of the shop or the weather forecast? What happens if you flip the plate over? (bracing exposed) heat or water or any other "unnatural intervention" is not a good idea. The plate halves were flat - the plate glue up was flat - about 45% rh in our shop. Again this is not a big issue but it would be nice to know the cause and affect of the situation.

Hi Ken Hi John,
I didn't think it would present a problem but I've never seen this before. In the second picture there is a Hygrometer and the humidity is 51%. When I glued the braces it was about 40%. I have turned it over and brought it in the house, but no change. I won't worry.

Woody - I had the same thing happen, and for the same reason, and it worked out just fine.

Sorry I did not see the hydrometer in the pic. I can't remember every set I send out but seems to me that this back has nice looking angled/figured grain convergence at the joint -- just a guess but this may make the plate a little more sensitive to moisture content?

Woody - which bridge did you get with that kit? I opted out of the pyramid and got the other one. Both were nice.

Dave, I decided on the pyramid bridge. Ken angles the pin holes to help with intonation.
