This Ervin Somogy article has been around for some time now, I personally do not buy into every single scientific assertion -- however, the information presented is the best I've read on the subject. The diagrams are excellent, for me the article explains why the "basic X brace patterns" work so well and at the same time he lays out the guides lines for inovation and (possible) improvements.

Interesting reading, it still implies the magic of Luthiery. Science can give you information and formulas but the individual Luthiers give it the artistic touch. That is why I still build kits, I have a good chance of making a well sounding instrument, even though I am not sure why.

Thanks for posting that, I wonder what else has gone though his head since 1993. Also gets me thinkin on my forward shifted bracing D 18 I'm finishing. I will check the weight of my bridge also. Very cool...
