Need Just a Bit of Fresh Shellac?

Many times, all I need is just need a bit of shellac -
For example, I wanted to seal a groove that I had just routed for a rosette. So I simply sprayed a bit of shellac from my Zinsser Spray can into a paper cup - then I brushed it on. Why do this? The shellac is always fresh and you I didn't have to get spray shellac all over the workspace.
