Here is my next project. Building a '72 style tele for my nephew. I'm not going with a pickguard, so all the controls will be mounted to the top. I didn't cut this one out. I had Jeff Head make it up for me. He did a good job, but didn't route any access areas in the back to install the controls. I should be able to handle that. Don't have plans for a tele neck so I am going to use the neck on my American Tele as a pattern. This will be a fun one! Going to finish it in a bluish green burst with all black hardware and tuning machines.

Hey Ken, what wood is that top? Maple? Whatever it is, I love that heavy curl!

David, the top is maple. I hit it with some mineral spirits prior to shooting the pic.

Love it!

what are your plans for mounting the pickups? it would be criminal to use any kind of pickguard on that. maybe gibsonish humbucker rings made of wood?

I almost didn't guess maple, the grain and curl was right but the color was a bit more caramel-ish, but the mineral spirits would explain that. Anyway, I like it, it will look awesome under finish.

Martin, I'll be using Gotoh's black tele bridge with the humbucker opening for the rear humbucker. I have a matching black ring for the neck humbucker. I had thought of using wood rings, but my nephew wants all black hardware, including this bridge. If I can pull off the burst, this will be a cool guitar.
