Since mjmeehan is building a kit I assume he is relatively new to guitar building. Nothing wrong with that we all had to build our first guitar and kits provide a great way to get started. The first 5 or 6 guitars is a study of getting the carpentry squared away as it pertaines to guitar building. The real question was not if putting the plate tight to the X brace was the way to go or not. In my mind it can be done either way depending on other factors in the build and the sound you want. I happen to fit it tight. The real question was, am I doing this correctly. The situation was that the angle of the bridge plate did not fit the angle of the X bracing. Also there was a gap of 1/16" at the top of plate from the X and a gap of 3/16" at the bottem of the plate from the X. That may mean that the plate is too far back. If it is OK to leave this the way it is what else is also OK. The guitar may take longer to build and it may bear a few battle scars from repairs if things like this are corrected but in the end when some one looks at the plate(and someone will at some time)they will not ask embarassing questions.Mjmeehan please don't think I'm picking on you,I'm not. I'm right there in your corner with you. Just try to do the best you can and when you make a mistake (we all do)correct it and move forward with more knowledge.

Tom you may be fine hobby builder with high ideals - we don't know, I don't think any of your stuff has ever been pictured in any forum or anywhere --but great anyway! Trying to scare someone with your made up jibberish is nonsense. And only serves you and your ego. The designer and producer of the kit that is me told him all is good move on, don't be concerned. Yet your ego still some how allows you to be an authority on KMG guitars and kits, which for an absolute fact you know absolutely nothing about -- "this just proves in forums, anyone can say anything and they will." And when I mentioned that when real problems arise we (KMG) will alert the builder and take care of the situation, that seems to bother you. Plus you find it impossible to absorb any of the other factual information presented here regarding bridge plate design and placement. Which clearly debunks your notion. Did you even read it? So, you must find it amazing when others see things other then your personal very narrow view. Your little signature thingy here about mistakes indicates to me that you may have some sort of "mistake guilt fixation" -- I admit I know nothing about that ---- get a grip --- we all learn things differently.

Ken: I certainly will not address that reply. Take care.

I am embarassed by this response to Tom who is doing his best to give helpful advise. Reminds me of a similar attack here on JJDonahue (see him around anymore?). Forums are about sharing opinions and ideas. Seems some can't handle anyone expressing an opinion that differs from theirs. Expressing an opinion on a KMG design is no different than any of us commenting on a Martin design/build. And this attack was vindictive and personal, which is not a first.

May we all have thicker skin when needed and patience and understanding . We may disagree lets not get disagreeable .
I like Ricks post , a cool head in a hot discussion can get us to focus on what is important . Thanks Rick
