If that pocket does not show on the other side, then I agree, put it on the inside of the guitar. If you are worried about it opening up some day, then just glue a patch over it. Don't use ca glue. It won't show and you will rest better at night.
By the way Diane, your work so far is looking very fine.

Be nice if you could position this in the soundhole where it will be trimmed away.
