Yep. North/South/East/West. Now I need to figure the radius and how far out from the center point.

It would be half the width of the rosette at its widest point. If you want a 5/8" rosette, the square or diamond should have its corners at 5/16" from center.

here is another style wood rosette with a center pearl strip .

here is another style wood rosettes . The first one is a rosewood black limba made using the tiling technique. Once the rosette was glued in I added the pearl ring.
the 2nd and lower rosette is rosewood and bubinga . The same technique was used on both rosettes I just added the pearl . Making rosettes is a great way to use up scrap pieces .

I am tending to like simple when it comes to rosettes, single rings, and just a tad bid off the norm.
Here is my latest. Very simple. I cut the wood ring from left over material for the B & S macacuaba.
Easy to cut out using a circle cutter on my dremel.

This afternoon I just found a rosette that blew me away. It's from Andrew Gallagher over at the AGF. What an encredible idea - simple, elegant.
Andrew's father was Kevin Gallagher, whose work I have not had pleasure to see yet. But Andrew's taking things over in that shop and off to a wonderful start.
He said in the post that this is the completed rosette and that the rosewood line will extend into the rosewood binding.
I'm liking this.
