I always tell my students that when you want to build a guitar always build the fretboard first. Everything thing on the instrument comes from the measurements obtained from the fretboard. If you build in that manner there will be no horrendous mistakes!

Very good point. The fretboard/scale length is the only critical dimension on the whole guitar. If you have a little experience, you can build a perfectly good instrument, after that point, just by eyeballing it.
If you can't do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly.

Maybe it's obvious to all, but when you join the 2 pieces of the top, glue them up where one side is maybe 1/4 or 1/2 inch offset from the other side. That way you'll be able to easily find the centerline. Sometimes the glue line in Spruce is really hard to find.

when you glue the plates you just sand one plate on the joint edge corner so the center line is easy to see.
