Hey Bob,
That is a great looking rosette. I am glad that you discovered that you could save your build. Show us more as you progress.

I'm about to sand the rosewood/abalone rosette down flush with the top.
The last time I did this, there was a lot of rosewood dust that seemed to get into the spruce around it.
Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening?
Thanks,
Bob

I have started leaving a couple of wash coats of shellac on my tops while I am working on other parts of the guitar. I plan on sanding it off when I prepare the top for finishing. I applied it with a cotton rag.

I like John's suggestion of a seal coat of shellac (you can use the pre-mixed SealCoat available at many home stores like Lowes, Home Depot, etc.).

I've got some Emtech 6000, think that will work as a sealer? I think some people actually use it as a sealer before porefilling the sides and back.
Also, I've got some spray sealer that I will be using when I start the finishing process, so I could use it for this.
Thanks,
Bob

Shellac tints the light woods, uneven sanding will cause blotches that can't be seen until later in the finishing process ----- Water borne products cause distorion in and on the wood surface ---- for these reasons I will not use either of these types of coating chemicals as sealers ------- $.02

Ken, what about that Deft Lacquer Sanding Sealer?
All I want to do is make sure the rosewood dust doesn't mess up the top when I sand that rosette down flush.
Will regular sanding, before sealing the top, clean up all that dust? Or does it get too deep in there?
Thanks

Yep -- I think Deft nitro sealer would be a good choice.

Finished putting all the bracing on the top. All that's left is some final chiseling of the finger braces and the ones at the neck.
Once that's done, hopefully tomorrow, I'll cut some channels for the braces that extend to the edge of the sides and glue the top on.
