Sylvan, I like the repairability of the method you use where the rod isn't glued in.I assume with a little tension on the rod you've never had a rattle? No caulk or anything in the channel besides the truss rod?

Never had a problem with a rattle as long as you pre-tension the rod. I fret as the very last thing I do when I build for the same reasons that Rick Davis talked about. My experience at least, has led me to believe that you fret after the fretboard and neck are glued together and attached to the guitar. This means that fretting is one of the last things you do. Another advantage to that process is it allows you to sand away the dreaded 14 fret hump that I read so much about and build a fretboard that is perfectly flat for fretting.
