headstock logo
hello everyone... i am getting pretty close to finishing my d18 martin kit i bought from martin and would like some feedback... i have an idea of getting a custom made headstock logo that would match the style of the martin logo except it would have my name (MC Miller) and Co and est. 2012.... my wife says it is a stupid idea, which maybe it is, but i am just wondering what everybodies thoughts are? lame or not?

Not a bad idea but wouldn't be my first choice.

Re: headstock logo
I too thought about that idea...
My g-grandfather's name is C.M. Klein - I thought about doing my headstock similar and decided "NO".
Seriously... C.F. Martin should be almost revered in my mind. I can't say the same about Martin production guitars today, but in the early 1800's? That man made a difference in the guitars we play today... so - as a guitar player/guitar lover, I would shun anything that tried to mimic CF Martin as a buyer/player/rookie builder.
In my mind, it almost seems irreverent.
You do what you want, but I agree with your wife - be yourself. Afterall - you are not making a Martin guitar... you're making a Miller. Make it original to MC Miller.

Re: headstock logo
Definitely do a logo, but most definitely make it your own. One of the best reasons to build your own guitar is to customize it as you wish. I've always thought that if you wanted a guitar that looked like a Martin D-28, felt like one, and sounded like one, then go buy one. This is a chance to make the guitar YOU want, the way YOU want, try coming up with a fun custom designed logo....there have been several on this forum that have some great ideas....check out some of the builders websites for some thought starters.

Ask the wife if she has some alternative designs in mind.mcm2108 wrote:.. my wife says it is a stupid idea

Why is it stupid? Maybe it is too easy, maybe it does not look right. I guess you have to try some things out. Print 'm and stick 'm to some headstocks. Along the way you'll find some ideas that will work and are nice.
In the end private logo is a must imo.
good luck and say hi to your wife.

I'd do something original as well, I like playing around with initials. My "logo" if you will, are my initials "DB".

Granted this is extremely rough, I litterally just opened paint to chicken scratch you an idea could be cool to work with... "MCM"

You could do anything at all, but something along those lines, could be unique and elegant. Especially if you don't do it free hand with a mouse! Haha. If you invested in the tools to inlay that also, it could look very nice.
Just my .02 as well. Different people have different tastes, so feel free to disregard.
