complicated binding/purfling gluing question

With wood bindings and fiber purflings, I have had the best success/results using LMI white glue, glueing and taping them on together, and then wrapping the the whole body in cloth binding tape (this is what it's called for sewing). This last step really pulls the purfling and binding into the channels for a really good fit.

Ok, the cloth binding tape sounds like the right way to go. Is there a particular wrapping pattern, I wonder, that is most efficient?

Dave: Unless you are doing abalone I think you should do it all at one time.I only do wood binding and have stayed away from using tape for fear of ending up with gaps. I only do half a top or back at a time. I use what I call false binding taped into the three section not being worked on and then rope the work pieces into place. Have never had a problem with gaps doing it this way. No computer skills here or I would show some pictures of roping but maybe a search of the web may show it. Also important to have the routed channels as perfect as possible. A small sharp chisel and small file and a good set of eyes help here.Any wide purfling like herringbone gets prebent while thinner pieces are left straight and get bent into place during installation.Many ways to skin the cat this is just how I do it.

I like the slow time glue as Ken suggest . I think after a dry run or 2 you should get a good feel for this but prepare for the unexpected .
