Hi guys,

This is my thread on the old SJ I am making. I used ADI and some sinker mahogany I got a deal. It is coming along nicely. It took some time to find the bracing patterns on that banner year but with the help of others, She is closed up.

This guitar is deep end to end 4.8. I think I am going to order some .375 cream binding from Stewmac and cut it down a bit maybe to around .310. This white .250 just looks thin to me.

I tried a laminated neck this time. In Texas one of my one piece necks twisted, so I wanted to try something a little more stable. It is Honduran/walnut/flame maple/walnut/honduran.

Fingerboard for illustration purposes.....

I have been working at my real job profusely, but I got some time in to get the back bound. I am working on a split parallelogram inlay for the fretboard. I am going to try the stewmac relic brash 3 on plate golden restoration tuners.

Is anyone shooting with Seagraves? I have used Cardinal and Behlen's. The Behlens lays down nice with my Iwata. But I read the solid content in the Seagraves is higher and it sands easier.

Hi guys,

I got my binding and staining down. I will seal her and start my pore filling with aqua coat. I love aqua coat. I have been working on my compressor this afternoon, (bad pressure switch). My Seagraves arrived today. I should be shooting lacquer by tomorrow evening.

Hi all,

I got more finishing done. I bursted the top once. I didn't like it. The Behlen Starcraft Amber looked Gretsch Orange. So I sanded it off. Sith some advice from John and Brian Howard. I got a burst 2.0

I don't know what to call it, Tea Burst, Honey Burst? Some kind of burst. But, I am happy with it. It is only the second guitar rI have finished with a burst. The gun works so much better than rattle can. I had full control. I kept playing with it until I didn't want to risk anymore. It is what it is.

But there are not to many slopes that look exactly like this.

Getting closer to finished here.

I just need to buff the body, tweak the neck fit just slightly for center, and glue the bridge.

This was my first attempt at staining a neck. I will say, I thought it was a pain the the neck. The end grain plays hell with keeping the stain even. If any has any tips for next time, I am all ears.

Looks great! Nice burst too...they're harder than they look! IMO if you're using nitro try tinting the lacquer as opposed to staining the wood...like you said end grain is problematic

Yes, I would definite use a tinted lacquer as I have in the past. This was the first laminated neck I have ever tried. I didn't want to fool with all the taping and masking.

I do like the contrast in the neck though with the different wood colors. I am anxious to hear this one. I built it very light according to Mr. Greven's advice and use the bracing patterns I found from an X-Rayed '43 Gibson Southern Jumbo.

I have to order a pick guard, just trying to decide if I want to go tiger stripe or not.
