Me and Blue Dog are Building a D28 Kit

Post by Dolamike »

Hello forum!

My name is Michael and I am building my first guitar kit. Along with me will be my shop mate Blue. We're going to share our progress here and would love any advice and guidance the forum has for us as we undertake this adventure.

I purchased a D-28 kit from John at Blues Creek along with a mold and radius dishes. So far I have been doing prep work but I think we are just about ready to get this build started. Top notch kit John, really impressed.

Below are some photos of our setup. Thanks in advance for sharing yor knowledge and wisdom with a first time builder. Much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum Michael and that's a fine looking kit you got there. And Blue dog looks pretty fine too. He'll make a great shop mate.
Looks like you're ready to go. You will receive lots of interest and help with any questions here, as well as from John.

I started with a kit from LMI 18 years ago. I'm working on #27 now and still love building them.
Looking forward to seeing your guitar build progress!!

Welcome aboard! You made a great choice with your first kit.

Shop dogs definitely improve the building experience.

Hey Michael. Congratulations on making the move to build your first kit. You’ll get plenty of help here, just ask away. John makes a really good kit and is a wealth of knowledge. His videos on YouTube cover almost any question you can think of.
I can tell this is your first kit. Your shop is WAY too clean, organized, and uncluttered!!😂🤣👹
Take care and good luck.

Thanks for the warm welcome all, appreciate it. @kevin, they say cockroaches are very intelligent, probably less of a chow hound than Blue. hahaha. I spend some time in preparation before this build to clean up the bench, it was a total mess. :-)

I had a busy morning today, got the sides prepped and glued in the neck and tail block. I hope I am interpreting John's video correctly. With the flat side of the radius dish I have a 1/4 in. gap at the rear of the top to help set the neck angle.

I have to say these sides seemed pretty darn near that out of the box, I think John does some pre-work on these to get them close.

I spent extra time getting my center lines on the neck and tail block, tried to be as accurate as possible. We'll see when the clamps come off. Wish me luck. Photos below.
