Fretboard is COMPLETE (for now anyway)!
The fretboard is ready to install, with the exception of cutting 0 fret (where it abuts the nut), and cutting it to the proper length. Right before installing, I'll cut and sand it so that fret 0 is precise and I'll decide on the shape at the bottom. After it's installed, I'll level and dress the frets.
I didn't have any real problems cutting through the inlay for the frets. There was one tiny piece that chipped out, but it's concealed under the fretwire. I was a bit worried about fret 1, since the leaf actually lays along the fret, but I had no problems opening the slot.

I ended up using most of the pieces from the pickguard, on the fretboard, so I'm going another direction with the headstock. I'm going to inlay this peacock into ebony for the headstock overlay.
I call this a "jumping in with both feet, wearing cement shoes, and hoping I don't drown" moment!

I decided to try one more time to design a headstock inlay, using left over pieces from the fretboard. I had originally envisioned the vine on the fretboard and a smaller inlay for the headstock, so that the guitar wouldn't be overwhelmed by inlay.
Here is the design that I made, and with the help of forum members, revised. I took photos representing the order in which I did the inlay.
1. photo shows my drawing of the peghead shape with the inlay in position. I put the inlay lower on the headstock so that it would sit between the strings. The strings will flow with the inlay.
2. I copied the layout on the ebony veneer, and glued it into place to scribe around it.
3. After scribing, I rubbed the veneer with white chalk.

FINISHED!!!
1. After inlaying, I filled a couple of places with ebony dust and CA glue.
2. The inlay is finished and sanded to 600 grit. I coped the outline of the headstock again to give you a frame of reference, but I may not have lined it up perfectly. I'll make several measurements to ensure that the design and veneer are perfectly lined up on the peghead, before gluing it.
